Faith in the Crossfire: When a Dialectical Revolution Targets Christianity

$24.99

William C. Roach

The development of dialectical thought in culture and the church, and its consequences for Christianity and a defense of objective truth, sound reason, divine revelation, biblical authority, and the historic Christian faith.

Description

Christianity is increasingly caught in a conflict over the nature of truth, reason, revelation, and faith. But what lies beneath this conflict? Rightly understood, many of the theological and cultural movements challenging historic Christianity are shaped by dialectical thinking, a way of viewing reality through contradiction, conflict, and transformation. From modern theology and Marxism to critical theory and progressive Christianity, the dialectical method has repeatedly been used to reinterpret truth, Scripture, human identity, and the Christian faith itself. Christianity is therefore not merely confronting a collection of unrelated controversies. It stands in the crossfire of a deeper intellectual and spiritual struggle between the dialectic and the Logos.

Faith in the Crossfire explains this struggle with clarity and depth. William C. Roach traces the philosophical and theological development of dialectical thought, examines how it operates within contemporary culture and the church, and exposes its consequences for Christian doctrine and practice. He then presents a constructive defense of objective truth, sound reason, divine revelation, biblical authority, and the historic Christian faith. Readers will come away better equipped to recognize the ideas reshaping Christianity, understand where those ideas originated, and defend the truth revealed in Jesus Christ, the eternal Logos.
