When several difficult eye surgeries left Dene Ward sitting next to a window for months on end, unable to read, her husband built a trough type bird feeder outside her window just inches from her face. Thus began a fifteen year venture into bird watching. Over the long days the birds taught her about family, community, and common sense, and as she is prone to do, she began writing down the spiritual lessons that she learned from her time at the window.
